Creative Movement: A class designed to introduce the littlest dancer to a studio setting. The focus is on following directions, large motor skills, rhythm, musicality and self control.
Pre-Ballet 1 : Using the skills acquired in creative movement, the young dancer is now ready to begin barre work. The focus turns to stability, alignment and protocol that will set the basis for all future ballet classes. Creative movement is still the foundation of this level and barre work is simple and introduced slowly. The 15 minutes of tap at the end of the class is to strengthen and support rhythm and musicality. The dancer eventually learns more terminology and technique. Creative movement is still included in class as well as stretching and large motor skills. Teacher may add 15 minutes of tap at the end of class for rhythm, balance and strength.
Ballet 1 : The dancer is ready for a focus on barre work, technique and center work including simple adagio, classic positions of the body and simple petite allegro. Free dance and exploration of movement is still encouraged at this level.
Ballet 2 : A ballet class designed to teach the fundamentals of ballet that will be the basis of all future ballet classes. Alignment, balance, strength and flexibility as well as vocabulary and classroom etiquette are taught at this level.
Tap 1/2 : A half hour class that expands upon what the dancer has experienced in the abbreviated tap class in the pre-ballet levels. This is a performing class and separate from their ballet class.
Teen Ballet/Jazz/Tap/ : Specifically for the dancer who is new to dance or looking for class outside the Roots Division.
Hip Hop : This class explores the street versions of jazz dance tied to hip hop music. This class pays attention to the cultures and history that has brought hip hop dance to the forefront of American dance.
Flamenco: This classic Hispanic style of dance is taught by our very own Marisa Guzman-Colegrove who is a world renown flamenco teacher and choreographer. In her class, students will learn the style, rhythms and history of this most passionate and electric dance form. Teen Ballroom: This class will take the student from swing to salsa and every social dance in between. Senor Guzman is a well known ballroom dancer and teacher in our community and has helped countless students learn the social graces that embody being a ballroom dancer.
Musical Theater: Students will learn various techniques and choreography from different musicals throughout the ages. They will also learn improvisational movement and different ensemble acting skills.
Rhythm Works: Rhythm Works Integrative Dance combines hip hop dance, music, rhythm, and movement to support developmental, functional, and motor goals for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Processing Disorders, ADHD, and other learning differences. ($180 for 10 classes)
Roots Division Classes Roots Ballet levels are taught both Vaganova and Cecchetti technique as a base for fundamental ballet curriculum. Bourneville is also studied. The progression from Root A to Root E is cumulative and all levels follow the same syllabus. Classical ballet terminology is learned and technique is gradually expanded so that our dancers stay healthy and have an optimal ballet experience that they will be able to carry on to college and beyond.
Roots Pointe is only offered to students enrolled in the Roots Division (Root C+ and above). Pointe is a beautiful expression of ballet technique. It is challenging to master and takes dedication. Our dancers look forward to "going up" en pointe and beginning their journey to join the decades of dancers who have blazed the trail.
Roots Jazz has it's foundation in classic American technique. Warm ups, floor progressions and combinations are designed to strengthen and inspire the dancer. History is discussed and studied and our dancers will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of jazz dance in its many forms.
Roots Modern is a free, expressive style of dance that began in the early 20th century. It employs techniques for developing the use of the entire body to express concrete or abstract ideas through movement.
